Demolition steel and rebar are bought by the ton, at a rate set by the local mill market and the condition of the material. Clean structural steel beams pay more than rebar tangled in concrete. On most demolition jobs in the Eastern Province, the steel recovery is what turns a cost into income. Call 0572188268.
Contractors know a building holds metal. What many underestimate is how much of the project margin sits in it. A single warehouse frame can hold thirty or forty tons of structural steel. A concrete villa holds several tons of rebar. Handled properly, that recovery covers a meaningful share of the demolition cost. Handled badly, it goes out with the rubble.
What structural steel and rebar are worth
Ferrous scrap is priced per ton, and the rate moves with local mill demand and the international steel scrap market. It shifts week to week, so no honest buyer quotes a blanket figure that stays valid for a month.
What does not change is the grading. Clean, cut, sorted steel earns more than mixed demolition arisings. The reason is simple: mixed material costs the buyer time, cutting and disposal, and that cost comes straight off your price.
| Material | Condition | Value level |
|---|---|---|
| Structural steel beams and columns | Clean, cut to size | Highest ferrous |
| Steel sections and purlins | Clean | High |
| Rebar, cleaned of concrete | Bundled | Medium to high |
| Steel plate and sheet | Sorted | Medium to high |
| Rebar with concrete attached | As demolished | Medium |
| Mixed demolition arisings | Concrete, wood, insulation mixed in | Lowest |
Non-ferrous is a separate and much higher rate. Copper cable, aluminium cladding, brass fittings and AC units from the same site are weighed and paid separately, never averaged into the steel tonnage.
What we recover from a demolition site
- Structural steel — I-beams, columns, trusses, purlins, bracing, staircases
- Reinforcement bar — from slabs, columns, foundations and retaining walls
- Steel sheet and plate — roofing, cladding, decking, tanks
- Aluminium — window frames, curtain walling, cladding panels, partitions
- Copper — pipework, cable, busbar, distribution boards
- HVAC equipment — chillers, ducted units, split systems, ductwork
- Pipe and fittings — steel, copper, galvanised
- Machinery and plant — generators, pumps, compressors, lifts
- Porta cabins and containers — site offices and storage units
Why sorting on site pays
The single biggest lever a contractor controls is separation.
A pile of beams mixed with concrete chunks, timber, insulation and cable is quoted at the lowest grade in the pile. Separate the same material into steel, aluminium, copper and general waste, and each stream is paid at its own rate. On a large job the difference runs into serious money.
The second lever is timing. Steel that sits in a yard for months collects sand, rust scale and water. Selling as the material comes off the building keeps the grade up and clears space for the next phase.
How we work with contractors
- Site visit before demolition starts. We walk the building with you and estimate what is recoverable and roughly what it is worth. No charge.
- Written offer. Based on tonnage estimates and current market rates, with each material stream priced separately.
- Phased collection. Material is removed as it comes down, so the site stays workable and does not fill with scrap.
- Weighing and documentation. Loads are weighed and recorded. Company sales get a full weight and payment record for your accounts.
- Payment. Cash for smaller loads, bank transfer with invoicing for project-scale work.
For larger projects we can also handle the metal recovery element as part of the strip-out, working alongside your demolition team.
What contractors should ask any scrap buyer
- Are ferrous and non-ferrous weighed separately, or averaged into one price?
- Is the weighing witnessed, and do I get a record?
- Who cuts and loads the steel, and is that cost inside the quote?
- Can collection be phased around the demolition programme?
- Is the offer tied to the current market, or a rate quoted weeks ago?
A buyer who cannot answer those clearly is a buyer to be careful with.
Documentation and site access
For commercial and demolition work we ask for the company details and written authorisation from the site owner or main contractor before removing material. This protects both sides and keeps the transaction clean. Our team follows site safety requirements and works to your access times.
Where we work
Dammam and Dammam 2nd Industrial City, Al Khobar, Dhahran, Al Qatif, Al Jubail, Al Hofuf, Al-Ahsa and Ras Tanura. For large projects we travel further across the Kingdom, including Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Taif, Yanbu and Rabigh. See our Area We Serve page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the rebar scrap price in Saudi Arabia?
It is set per ton and moves with mill demand and the international steel scrap market. We quote against the current rate after seeing the material. Call 0572188268.
Do you buy rebar with concrete still attached?
Yes, at a lower rate. Cleaning the concrete off lifts the grade noticeably on larger quantities.
Do you cut and load the steel yourselves?
Yes, on most jobs cutting, handling and loading are part of the service.
Can you collect while demolition is still running?
Yes. Phased collection is normal on our contractor work and keeps the site clear.
Do you buy the copper and aluminium from the same building?
Yes, and they are weighed and paid separately from the steel. Non-ferrous is worth far more per kilogram.
What paperwork do you need?
Company details and authorisation from the site owner or main contractor. We issue a weight and payment record in return.
Can you give a figure before demolition starts?
We can give an estimate after a site walk. The final number depends on actual tonnage and the market on collection day.
Do you take porta cabins and site containers?
Yes, along with old machinery and plant.
Is there a minimum tonnage?
Small demolition jobs are fine in the Eastern Province. Very small loads far from Dammam work best combined with other material.
How are large payments handled?
Bank transfer with a proper invoice, or cash for smaller loads, whichever suits your accounts.
Talk to us before you start the demolition
The best time to call is before the building comes down, not after the steel is buried in rubble. Call or WhatsApp 0572188268, or use the contact form. See also our building demolition scrap prices guide and the Building Demolition Scrap service page.
